Colander and bowl (optional, to catch the buttermilk)

Troy, I ended up making butter using some of the cream. I just put it in the bowl of my Kitchen Aid mixer, let it mix on medium speed, and after a few minutes heard the change in the sound of the mixer--at this point, it was a very heavy, kind of clotted-cream looking concoction (and quite excellent on scones) but with a little more mixing, the whey separated out completely from bright yellow clumps of butter. I drained the buttermilk and just mixed it in with some soured cream for use in soda b
